CORPORATE VISIT

 We have visited Microsoft, IBM, Lenova, Alibaba, Huawei, and Hikvision six companies. 

I’ve learned a lot in this experience. I’ve studied in the classroom all the time, and I’ve never come out to practice what I learned on the book. I always wondered that why I come abroad to study? After I took ENG 371 this summer, our professor gave us the chance to interview the technical communicators. Most of their majors are English majors or technical majors. I noticed that the company always needs to cultivate the technical communicators by themselves. For example, Microsoft company hired the workers who have the technical knowledge to learn how to write in English. IBM company taught the workers who have English knowledge to learn technical skills. Most of the universities in China don’t have technical communication major, so the companies have to cultivate the professions by themselves. We didn’t interview the technical communicators in the U.S., so we can’t compare the differences between China and the U.S. workers very well. However, universities in the U.S. have the technical communicator major, maybe it’s easier for the U.S. companies to find workers that have learned technical communication knowledge.

   My major is operating management, and this major is focused on the process. After I took ENG 371, I expected to use what I learned in this class to my major.
